We're looking for an intern!

By Coach House Date: February 02, 2023

Coach House Books is looking for an enthusiastic, imaginative, very very organized Editorial Intern.

The ideal candidate will be a critical, curious reader, able to assess, quickly and smartly, a large number of submissions, as well as to keep them well organized and to respond kindly and diplomatically to some of them. They will also be a skilled, precise proofreader and fact-checker of marketing copy and the occasional manuscript.

Duties include:

Good organizational skills are key. Some training in copy-editing or proofreading would be an asset, as would familiarity with small-press publishing in Canada; enthusiasm for learning these things, however, is our primary consideration.

This is a four-days-a-week position for twelve weeks, primarily working from home but with occasional visits to our office in downtown Toronto; ideally you’ll be able to help selling books at events. The starting date is flexible but ideally soon. There is a $6,900 honorarium for the internship, paid as $1,150 every two weeks.

This is part of a Diverse Intern initiative supported by Ontario Creates, so while we will accept applications from any and all backgrounds, we will be prioritizing candidates from equity-deserving groups. We regret that our building is not able to be made accessible.

To apply, please send your resume and cover letter in a single document (PDF, Word, or rich-text format) to jobs@chbooks.com. Please include a list of your three favourite books and why you’ve chosen them, as well as a list of your three favourite publishers.

We will be accepting applications until February 13, 2023, at 5pm.
