What is a Wayzgoose, you ask? It’s a printing tradition, a party a master printer would throw for his workers near the end of August to mark the end of summer, the start of the season of working by candlelight. For fifteen years, Coach House Books has been hosting a contemporary version of Wayzgoose, where hundreds of literary friends gather in our parking lot to celebrate the start of the fall season.

This year's annual Coach House Books Wayzgoose will be held virtually on Zoom. An e-Wayzgoose, if you will. In respect for public health, we thought it best that everyone enjoy the party from the safety of their own homes instead of shoulder to shoulder in our parking lot.

Since we can’t do things as usual, we’re taking this opportunity to switch it up, and to invite people from all over the world who would never be able to attend in person.

It will be an evening of short readings by some of our best writers.

In attendance will be:

André Alexis

Tamara Faith Berger

Suzette Mayr

Andrew Kaufman

Nicole Brossard

Lisa Robertson

Christian Bök

and Sina Queyras

Historically, the Wayzgoose has always been about hot dogs, cheap drinks, and books. So grab a snack, a glass, and stay tuned for the special Wayzgoose promo code at the event!

The evening will be hosted by editorial director Alana Wilcox and publicist James Lindsay from the Coach House archives with stories of past Wayzgeese, a tour of our print shop, and more!
